Chasity Shelton, LMSW

Clinical Director

Chasity Shelton is the owner and Clinical Director of Beyond The Surface Counseling & Consulting. She’s a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a Certified Clinical Social Work Supervisor offering mentorship and supervision to limited licensed and newly full-licensed therapists. Originally from Detroit, MI, Mrs. Shelton returned to the Metro Detroit area after earning her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University in 2009 and Masters in Social Work from University of Pittsburgh in 2011. She has experience in several settings including child-welfare, home-based and outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient psychiatric and private practice.

As a clinical therapist, Mrs. Shelton’s therapeutic approach focuses on the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit while complementing evidence-based practices. Her outlook to building a strong therapeutic relationship is intersectional; highlighting cultural and social identities and life experiences that shape the whole being. She aims to maintain a balance of being warm but direct, supportive yet challenging, gentle and honest. Her goal is to foster a non-judgmental, safe and open space where the base of help is genuine and compassionate. She specializes in finding peace within the storm and helping you gain more insight about self to heal more deeply.

Personally, Chasity enjoys being a mother to her loving and charismatic daughter, a wife of 10 years to her supportive husband, a dog mom and traveling.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Severia Adolphus, as a Naturopathic Doctor and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, uses her expertise in Complimentary Alternative Medicine (CAM) to promote healing in children, adolescents and adults with mental illness - including ADHD, ODD, Depression, Bipolar, Mood Disorders and Schizophrenia. 


Dr. Adolphus uses Eastern and Western Philosophies to bring comprehensive consciousness to the mind, body and spirit. By implementing her knowledge of medicinal foods, herbs, diets, plants, exercise, yoga, reflexology, reiki and more to assist in preventing and discontinuing discord in the body systems, she has a proven ability for establishing the natural chemical balance in order to promote healing.

Joanne Mesleh, LLMSW

Clinical Therapist

Joanne is a limited licensed master level social worker, that has been practicing for 7 years. She is
compassionate about mindfulness and offering a safe and nonjudgmental space for all.
She's committed to helping young to older adults that are seeking support with life challenges
and/or life transitions. She has experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, coping skills,
grief, loss, family issues, relationship issues.


Her therapy approach is client centered as she strongly believes you are the expert in your
own life. Her work focuses on targeting unwanted behaviors or patterns, and learning new
coping skills. She offers a direct, and transparent, yet gentle approach, and believes in working
together to help you reach your goals.

Courtney Spurgeon, LLMSW

Clinical Therapist

Courtney is a Limited Licensed Master of Social Work that has a passion for helping people discover their
purpose. Hope is what Courtney strives to bring back to those in need of light. Helping those who are in
crisis, battling substance use disorder and various mental health disorders is what Courtney has
extensive experience in, along with identifying traumatic events and understanding the impact those
events have on an individual’s personal, professional and social life. Courtney also has experience in
grief and loss, helping individuals find ways to healthily cope and working with different family
dynamics.

Her therapy approach is client centered with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral therapy. This
approach is targeted at addressing how one’s thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect their feelings and
behaviors. She places a priority on making her clients feel safe, calm and welcomed by having an
unbiased, gentle and open-minded client centered approach.

She is focused / dedicated on helping her clients reach their goals and find peace in their battles.
